Original wood windows at Chatham Court, Piedmont & Third Aves.

Piedmont and Third

690 Piedmont Avenue NE

The two buildings located at this property are contributing to the Midtown Historic District. Both are three-stories, constructed of red brick with sun porch wings, and symmetrical fenestration. Originally apartment buildings, they were converted to condominiums in 1999.

Devonshire: Located at 155 Third Street NE, the building was designed by the architectural firm of Walker and Chase in 1915. Elements of the Tudor Revival style that include English brick bond plus segmental and Tudor arches are prominent, as well as groupings of wood windows with small transoms.

Chatham Court: Located at 690 Piedmont Avenue NE, this building was designed by Leila Ross Wilburn in 1918. Wilburn was the second female architect in the Southeast and worked exclusively in Atlanta and Decatur while maintaining her office in the now-lost Peters Building. A more restrained design than that of the Devonshire building, Chatham Court exhibits Running brick bond with a small decorative panel of English bond above the main entrance on Piedmont Avenue as a nod to the Devonshire building.
